Why happy employees are key for your business success

by | Mar 16, 2020 | Public Relations

You put your all into your business and want it to succeed. You have an amazing product or service and you’ve put a lot into marketing. While desire, research, and getting your name out there are all important for your success, there’s something else that’s just as (if not more) crucial—your employees.

You rely on your employees to help your company run smoothly, and the happiness of your employees is vital. Here’s why happy employees are key to your success:

The impact of unhappy employees

When employees are unhappy in their jobs, they’re much more likely to leave. A higher employee turnover rate costs a significant amount of time and money. You need to post new job listings, interview potential candidates, and then spend time and money training them.

Other effects of unhappy employees include:

  • Stress
  • Poor morale
  • Low productivity

The benefits of focusing on employee happiness

When employees are happy in their jobs, they’re much more likely to stay. They provide significant benefits for your business.

  • Greater productivity

Happy employees tend to be healthier. As a result, they take fewer sick days. Not only that, but happiness allows the brain to work more efficiently. When employees are happy, they are more productive and get more done.

  • A happier environment

When people are happier, they’re less stressed. When they’re happier, they’re also more likely to enjoy being around one another. This helps create a harmonized environment and makes coming to work every day much more enjoyable.

  • More creativity

There’s evidence showing a link between happiness and creativity. When people are happier, their brains are freer. This allows for greater mental flexibility and the ability to think outside of the box.

  • Improved customer service

When your employees are happy, they’re much more likely to want to make others (namely, your customers) happy. They’re more willing to go above and beyond to ensure that all customers have the best possible experience. Happy customers will share their experiences with others, which can translate into greater business.

Tips for boosting employee satisfaction

So, now that you know happy employees make for a more successful business, just how can you go about ensuring that everyone in your company is satisfied? While money is a big motivator for many, it’s not the only thing needed to keep employees happy. Whether people are looking for the best truck driver job or the best jobs in retail, here are some tips to ensure that your business is a place where employees want to be.

  • Communicate often

Communicate with your employees. Don’t just tell them what you expect of them though. Take the time to listen to them. Take the time to meet with them individually and as a group. Ask for their input. Get to know them on a more personal level. When you have an open, honest line of communication, employees are more likely to feel comfortable and happy.

  • Offer rewards and recognition

When your employees do something outstanding, recognize them for it. Make an announcement. Thank them for their hard work. Reward their efforts. Spotlight them in the employee newsletter or social media page. A small reward or recognition can go a long way in boosting employee satisfaction.

  • Provide opportunities for growth

When employees feel like they have nowhere to go in their job, they might feel stuck or get bored. Instead, create opportunities for growth and advancement. Offer training programs that help your employees develop their skills or learn new ones. Give your employees new challenges and chances to advance in their careers.

Look outside of the workplace for growth opportunities as well. Find relevant training programs at a local college or community center and let your employees know about them. You can also offer tuition reimbursement, which can enable your employees to continue their education so that they can move up in the company.

While having a great product or service and effective marketing strategies are important for your business, you need happy employees. When your employees are happy, you can more easily achieve your business goals and higher levels of success.
