Women Entrepreneurs Grow Global Adds APCO Worldwide’s Mara Hedgecoth to Its Board

Women Entrepreneurs Grow Global announced that distinguished corporate communicator Mara Hedgecoth, senior director, Global Marketing and Communication at APCO Worldwide, joined the organization’s board of directors.

“As a majority women-owned business that has grown into a pioneer of the communications industry, APCO Worldwide is a shining example of what our organization aims to help women business owners and entrepreneurs achieve,” said Laurel Delaney, President of wegg®. “Mara has played a foundational role in APCO’s growth and success. Her expertise and guidance will be invaluable to wegg, and we’re delighted to welcome her to our board.”

Hedgecoth has more than 20 years of events, marketing, fundraising and consulting experience. At APCO, she oversees all aspects of corporate communications, the development of firm’s brand, and global marketing and business development initiatives on behalf of the company, while helping to guide APCO’s strategic direction.

Prior to joining APCO, Hedgecoth worked in the hospitality industry for Visit Baltimore, Renaissance and Sheraton Hotels, and Walt Disney World. Her experience involved extensive event and hotel management, advising local businesses on marketing efforts, serving as a liaison between government agencies and businesses, and implementing innovative programs.

“APCO’s journey, as a woman founded and majority women-owned business that grew from a single founder to a multinational leader in the communications industry, has fostered a special commitment from me to help women entrepreneurs thrive, so they can contribute to the global marketplace and grow local economies,” said Hedgecoth. “I’m honored to join such a distinguished group of board members and am truly eager to lend my expertise and play a part in helping wegg achieve its mission.”

Hedgecoth is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society Future Leaders Experience and served as a steering committee member for Goodwill Industries’ annual Gridiron Halloween fundraiser for nearly a decade, when in 2005 she was named “Good Person of the Year.”

With the addition of Hedgecoth, wegg’s board of directors is comprised of 10 distinguished leaders from a variety of women-owned businesses. The board plays a foundational role in helping wegg achieve its mission of educating, inspiring and nurturing women business owners and entrepreneurs around the world on how to they can run healthier businesses and create a new future for themselves, their families and their communities.
