Notable journalist and media industry moves:

  • The New York Times: Celia Dugger leads reorganized health desk, which consolidates health coverage from the National, Business, and Science sections. Stephanie Strom moves to Food desk. David Segal moves to London to take on European and other international business coverage. Danny Hakim moves to New York to focus on business issues related to the Trump administration. Jennifer Kingson oversees Ron Lieber, Tara Seigel Bernard, Stacy Cowley, and Mary Williams Walsh on consumer and personal finance beat. Kevin McKenna becomes acting economics editor. Joe Plambeck to oversee Rachel Abrams, Julie Creswell, David Gelles, Danielle Ivory, Barry Meier, and Hiroko Tabuchi. Ashwin Seshagiri has added responsibility of managing explanatory and service coverage. Jesse Pesta to oversee enterprise coverage. Hannah Fairfield moves from graphics editor to climate editor. Clifford Levy moves from assistant managing editor to deputy managing editor.
  • Reuters: Jim Finkle moves from cybersecurity reporter to Americas cybersecurity/technology editor.
  • Forbes: Steve Schaefer, senior editor for investing, leaves for position at Hewes Communications.
  • The Atlantic: Sigal Samuel, former opinion editor for The Forward, joins as religion editor.
  • CNBC: Kayla Tausche, co-anchor of “Squawk Alley”, becomes D.C. correspondent covering intersection of business and government.
  • CNN: Lex Haris, formerly with CNNMoney.com, becomes executive editor of the CNN investigative unit. Rich Barbieri replaces Haris as executive editor of CNNMoney.
  • NBC News: Tamron Hall, co-host of “Today”, leaves.
  • WTIC-TV (Hartford, CT): Liz Grey Godbout, formerly with WVIT-TV (Hartford, CT), joins as news director.
  • Gizmodo: Kelly Bourdet, former editorial director of Vocativ, joins as editor-in-chief. Bourdet replaces Katie Drummond, who moves to executive managing editor.
  • Vocativ: Ben Reininga moves from editorial director to editor-in-chief. Jordan Jayson moves from marketing VP to publisher.
  • New York Magazine: Olivia Nuzzi, formerly of The Daily Beast, joins as Washington correspondent.
  • Bloomberg News: Lisa Kassenaar, editor-at-large, leaves.
  • Sun Sentinel (Fort Lauderdale, FL): David V. Lyons, former editor-in-chief for Daily Business Review, joins as business editor. Lyons replaces Randy Roguski, who moves to metro editor.
  • Albuquerque Journal: Karen Moses moves from managing editor to editor. Dan Herra moves from editorial page editor to managing editor. D’Val Westphal moves from assistant editorial page editor to editorial page editor. Kent Walz, editor-in-chief, retires.
  •  Axios: Ina Fried, former senior editor for Recode, joins as chief technology correspondent.
  • Dallas Morning News: Scott Burns, personal finance columnist, retires.
  • WGFL-TV (Gainesville, FL): Andrea Clenney, news director, leaves.
  • Spoonful Magazine: Emily Teel moves from food editor to editor-in-chief.
  • KDLT-TV (Sioux Falls, SD): Jessica Brovold, former social media director for Hood Magazine, joins as news director.
  • Law Business Media: David Hechler, former executive editor of Corporate Counsel, joins as associate editor of The National Law Journal and editor-in-chief of Metropolitan Corporate Counsel.
  • MedPage Today: Ivan Oransky moves from global editorial director to editor-at-large.
  • Marketplace: Lewis Wallace, reporter, leaves.
  • The New York Times (Canada): Catherine Porter, former columnist for The Toronto Star, joins as Toronto bureau chief.
  • 980 CJME Saskatchewan: Co-hosts Jill Smith and Dave Arnold are laid off as station cancels “MainStreet”.
  • Maclean’s Magazine: Rogers Media is cutting 13 positions at the magazine, but seven new positions will be created. Jonathon Gatehouse and Nick Iwanyshyn confirm that they are among those laid off.
  • The Province/Vancouver Sun: Tara Carman, data journalist and immigration reporter for The Province and Vancouver Sun, leaves Postmedia. Howard Tsumura, high school and university sports reporter for The Province, leaves. Jeff Lee retires after 30 years as politics reporter. Mark Yuen, videographer and photographer with the Vancouver Sun, leaves for freelance work. Scott Neufeld, business news editor, leaves the Vancouver Sun after eight years. Marc Weber, reporter for the Vancouver Whitecaps and MLS, accepts a payout from Postmedia. Katie Mercer, social media editor, leaves The Province and is now social media director for Glacier Media. Erik Rolfsen accepts a payout from Postmedia. Nick Eagland shifts to cover overnight/breaking news.
  • CTV Vancouver: news anchor Coleen Christie is laid off.
  • Bell Media: lays off a number of staffers, including CTV W5 investigative reporter Victor Malarek. TSN 1040 Lions radio announcer Scott Rintoul is also laid off. Peter Schaad, Whitecaps radio announcer, will be moved to another area.
  • Canadian Press: Merita Ilo is appointed bureau chief, and Jeffery Hodgson joins as business editor.
  • Metro Toronto: David Hains, editor-in-chief of Torontoist, to cover urban affairs.
  • CANADALAND: editor Robert Hiltz leaves.
  • Yahoo! Canada: CFL reporter Andrew Bucholtz is no longer providing content.
  • Spacing Magazine: Glyn Bowerman joins as managing editor.
  • Toronto Sun: Rob Granatstein is laid off in latest round of Postmedia cuts.
